WHAT'S NEW

JULY 2007 -  NOVEMBER 30, 2008

May 2007

IN A DRAMATIC CHANGE OF HEART, VERIZON WIRELESS AGREES WITH THE BARTON MOUNTAIN ALLIANCE THAT THE BURTON HILL SILO IS A WIN WIN SOLUTION TO BARTON'S CELL SERVICE NEEDS.  VERIZON AGREES THAT THE BARTON MOUNTAIN SITE IS TOO HIGH TO PROVIDE CELL SERVICE TO THE POPULATION BASE AND LOOKS FOR A SECOND SITE TO CLINCH GOOD CELL SERVICE RECEPTION FOR THE TOWN AND VITAL INTERSTATE AND LOCAL TRAVEL CORRIDORS.  VERIZON WITHDRAWS ITS APPLICATION FOR THE BARTON MOUNTAIN SITE OFF CHAMBERLIN ROAD.  ACT 250'S REQUEST TO VERIZON THAT THE POPULATION BASE OF BARTON BE SERVED IS HEEDED.   BARTON'S PLANNING COMMISSION AGREES TO THE NEED FOR BETTER LOCATIONS ACCESSING BARTON'S POPULATION BASE.

May 2008   VERIZON OFFERS A BRILLIANT TWO-SITE SOLUTION SIMILAR TO THAT SUGGESTED BY INDEPENDENT ENGINEER, MR. ROGER BOYELL.  SEE ENGINEER'S REPORT AND ENGINEER'S ADDENDUM, PAGES 3 & 4.

November 30, 2008

The Auger Appeal of the Burton Hill Silo Site is ongoing in Environmental Court.  Verizon presents a "motion to dismiss" as the Burton Hill Silo site is several miles away from the Auger land and could not possibly affect the Auger viewshed.  Vince Illuzzi, who is representing the Augers, continues to pursue the appeal.   Verizon also notes that the Auger appeal did not include the application for the 'tree site' or Ingersoll Lane site and therefore is not within the jourisdiction of the court to be discussed thus should be dismissed.

ACT 250 has yet to issue its decision regarding the August Hearing.

November 4, 2008

The Barton Town Plan is approved along with sweeping clauses to protect Barton's ridge lines from industrialization.   Barton's natural resources including its ridge lines were specified by name for protection.  Among those ridge lines named for scenic protection are the ridge lines of Barton Mountain on which the former Unicel site, and recently purchased Illuzzi site is located.

Illuzzis Challenge Verizon For Personal Gain

Attempts made by Illuzzis to force Verizon onto their site.

Vince Illuzzi pressures Act 250 and Verizon to hold Hearing in the effort to force Verizon to use their site for Verizon's Cell Tower in Barton

Senator Defies Voting Public

TOWN AND FRIENDS OF BARTON MOUNTAIN BACK VERIZON'S TWO-SITE SOLUTION

Illuzzi tells Act 250, "Aesthetics is an issue for the Augers, not me."

The neighbors, the Barton Mountain Alliance, the Barton Ladies Improvement Society, Barton’s Scenic Ridgeline Protection Group, and the Town do not agree.  Aesthetics is an issue of great importance to Senator Illuzzi's constituents.

In his letter to the Act 250 Commission of May 14, 2008, Mr. Illuzzi makes clear his plan is a industrial build-out of major proportions for multiple telecommunications providers and commercial broadcast interests, when his site has NEVER been approved by the neighborhood, the townspeople, or Act 250.

It is our hope that Mr. Illuzzi will be able to see beyond his personal interests and come to respect the long-term area-wide dedication of his contituents to preserving the spectacular scenic beauty of Barton' landmark ridge lines by withdrawing his intervention in this matter.

Now that Verizon has withdrawn from Barton Mountain in favor of their much applauded two-site solution backed by the Barton Mountain Alliance, the community, the Town Planning Commission, and the area, see Illuzzi's dream:  Barton's Cell Tower Choices, page 2.
